About Blazing Saddles Governor’s Island
Your self-guided tour starts at the pick-up point by the South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan. This designated historic district is packed with restored ships and merchants’ buildings from the early 19th Century, and definitely worth exploring before you whiz across Brooklyn Bridge (don’t forget to pap the Statue of Liberty!) to admire widescreen Manhattan skyline views from swanky Brooklyn Heights.

Head back over the East River and pick up some lunch from one of the many colorful restaurants in vibrant Chinatown, where you might happily spend the rest of your afternoon munching on delicious dim sum and drinking bubble tea. You could take a spin along the Hudson River Greenway, a leafy riverside route that snakes through parkland and under bridges for 13 miles, from The Battery all the way to Harlem.
It’s a fine way to enjoy Manhattan’s more relaxed side, away from the bustle of Midtown. Along the way, look out for the final resting place of President Ulysses S. Grant and his wife, Julia. Press on to the George Washington Bridge, where you’ll be rewarded with excellent river views and top selfie opportunities at The Little Red Lighthouse.
It’s easy to while away a whole day exploring the park’s 843 acres. No need to rush, though: grab a picnic lunch, then meander around some of its 47 miles of paths at your leisure. Don’t miss the German-style Belvedere Castle, a Victorian folly perched atop Vista Rock with views across the Great Lawn and Turtle Pond.
Enjoy a moment of peaceful reflection in Strawberry Fields, the park’s memorial to John Lennon, and park up your bike for a gentle stroll into the North Woods. This wild landscape is full of tranquil pools, towering trees, and trickling waterfalls, as well as Blockhouse No. 1, a fortification that dates back to the War of 1812 and is one of the oldest structures in the park.
