About Belmont Mansion
Belmont Mansion, whose construction began in 1849, was built as a summer home for Joseph and Adelicia Acklen, one of Nashville’s wealthiest couples. The 19th-century estate now operates as a museum and sits in the middle of the Belmont University campus, one of the ten most beautiful urban campuses in the United States! It’s a must-see for history buffs and anyone interested in early architecture or decorative arts.

Listed as one of Nashville’s top twenty tourist attractions, Belmont Mansion attracts visitors from all over the country. Belmont Mansion is an Italian Villa constructed between the years 1849 and 1853. Through the years, it has been the summer home for Nashville socialite Adelicia Acklen and her family, temporary headquarters of the Union army, and an all-girls college. One of the most elaborate antebellum homes in the South, the entire Belmont estate was built, furnished, and landscaped by the Acklens and included gardens, art gallery, bowling alley, and zoo.
Guided tours of the Mansion are offered by trained interpreters. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, Belmont Mansion currently operates as a house museum and is maintained by the Belmont Mansion Association through admissions, venue rentals, event fundraisers, and individual and corporate donations.
