More Information on American Writers
The inspirational works on display at the museum are constantly changing, so you’ll see a huge variety of work, from classic and contemporary to up-and-coming authors. There’s something for every reader too, with galleries dedicated to children’s literature, famous Chicago authors and more. The mission of the American Writers Museum is to engage the public in celebrating American writers and exploring their influence on our history.
You’ll also get the chance to learn all about the writing process at the ‘in the mind of a writer’ exhibition. Whether it’s pages of prose or a simple, short sentence you’ll get an insight into the process, craft, and daily discipline. It’s not all writing displays, either. There are plenty of hands-on, interactive exhibits and multi-touch tables where you can explore and learn more about the authors.

Wintrust Chicago Gallery
Chicago writers are visionaries, unafraid of trying something new. The city is one of the birthplaces of realism, an approach to writing that elevates the “everyday” into art. Chicago poets, novelists, journalists, and other writers have found inspiration in everyday people, telling their stories and transforming the way they talk into art. Chicago writers are also troublemakers…with a humanist bent. They have shone the light on injustice, questioned authority, and articulated bold new visions for a better world. Chicago writers are agents of change.
