Imagine stepping into a world where every corner leads to an adventure as thrilling as flipping through the pages of a global safari journal—that’s Zoo Miami for you! Spanning almost 750 acres, this place is a gigantic playground for animals and adventure lovers like me. Whether it’s trekking the sprawling pathways by foot, cruising on a safari cycle, or lounging back on a tram tour, each mode of travel offers its unique spice to the experience.
As I wandered through the different continents, I was amazed at how each exhibit transformed Miami into a slice of another world. In the Americas, I locked eyes with a cunning jaguar, and in Asia, a majestic tiger prowled majestically in its lush enclosure. Down Under, I was charmed by the sleepy koalas, while the rugged crocodiles of The Florida Everglades reminded me of nature’s raw beauty.
The highlight of my visit? The Conservation Action Center, where the kid inside me had a blast! I crawled through a python tunnel (not a real one, thankfully!), smacked down environmental threats in “Habitat Whack A Mole,” and raced against time in a quirky composting game to scoop “poop.” It was educational, but it was loads of fun too.
Not to forget, the water play areas were a delightful respite from the Miami heat, with a few splashes adding to the fun. And those animal feedings? Getting up close and personal with some of the zoo’s stars was magical. Each encounter was a story filled with curiosity and excitement.
From the fluttering butterflies to the creeping reptiles, every moment at Zoo Miami was a chapter of its own in my travel diary. So, if you’re looking to traverse the globe without a passport, a day at Zoo Miami is your ticket to an unforgettable journey!

More Information on Zoo Miami
Zoo Miami is ideal for solo visitors, couples, and families who want to spend a day with some of the planet’s most incredible species. Visitors can travel the world in one day, visiting Africa, Asia, the Amazon, and Australia. Zoo Miami consists of 340 developed acres with over 3,000 animals and over 1,200 plants and trees planted to mimic the animals’ natural habitats.
Guests can feed giraffes, parrots, and a rhino; have animal encounters; meet the keepers during scheduled Meet the Zookeeper talks throughout the day; and much more. They will enjoy jaguars, lions, tigers, orangutans, elephants, the Wings of Asia Aviary (the largest Asian-themed aviary in the western hemisphere with hundreds of free-flying birds), gorillas, chimps, koalas, tree kangaroos, frogs, snakes, meerkats, and more animals than we could ever list.
At Amazon and Beyond, experience a rainforest, jaguars, anacondas, bats, venomous snakes (behind glass exhibits), rare frogs, harpy eagles, and a 48,000-gallon aquarium. Our Playworld Playground is great for kids to burn off excess energy. Half jungle, half water park, it can stay dry or wet. Zoo Miami has several concession stands and a beautiful gift shop where you can buy that special memento that will bring back wonderful memories of Zoo Miami!

Wings of Asia Aviary
- Walk among 400 – approximately 85 species – of the most exotic, beautiful, free-flying Asian birds you will ever see.
- Listen to soothing waterfalls as you walk along bridges and tree-covered paths.
- Dig for fossils at the Dino Dig and learn about the relationship between dinosaurs and today’s birds.
Animal Fun Factory
Open Weekends 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Presented by the José Milton Foundation, Zoo Miami’s Animal Fun Factory is a one-of-a-kind interactive exhibit where zoo visitors can learn about animal welfare and environmental conservation through hands-on, creative play. Enrichment is used to promote the natural behavior of the animals at Zoo Miami. Zoo educators guide visitors to create enrichment items that provide this physical and mental exercise for Zoo Miami’s animal residents.
