About The Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum

While at the museum, guests can explore Aircraft Carrier Intrepid, the Space Shuttle Pavilion, Submarine Growler, and British Airways Concorde.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the worldâs fastest jets, and a guided missile submarine. Through exhibitions, educational programming and the foremost collection of technologically groundbreaking aircraft and vessels, visitors of all ages and abilities are taken on an interactive journey through history to learn about American innovation and bravery.
The Intrepid Museum was founded in 1982 with the acquisition of the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, now a National Historic Landmark, which served tours of duty in World War II and the Vietnam War, and was a recovery vessel for the Gemini and Mercury space missions.
AVIATOR GRILL is open to the general public and Museum visitors for breakfast and Lunch. It offers a full, chef-prepared menu of hearty fare, including burgers, fresh bread, custom pizzas and more. This family-friendly restaurant is located on the second level of the Museumâs Welcome Center, overlooking the pier.
Aircraft Carrier Intrepid
Launched in 1943, the former aircraft carrier USS Intrepid fought in World War II, surviving five kamikaze attacks and one torpedo strike. The ship later served in the Cold War and the Vietnam War. Intrepid also served as a NASA recovery vessel in the 1960s. It was decommissioned in 1974, and today is berthed on the Hudson River as the centerpiece of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
Space Shuttle Pavilion
The Space Shuttle Pavilion showcases the space shuttle Enterprise, the prototype NASA orbiter that paved the way for Americaâs successful space shuttle program. Seventeen dynamic exhibit zones feature original artifacts, photographs, audio, and films that immerse visitors in the science and history of Enterprise and the space shuttle era.
Submarine Growler
The former USS Growler first opened at the Intrepid Museum in 1989 and is the only American guided missile submarine open to the public. Growler offers museum visitors a firsthand look at life aboard a submarine and a close-up inspection of the once âtop-secretâ missile command center. Access is available to the various compartments as they were used during operations.
