About Clearwater Marine
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit marine mammal rescue, rehabilitation, and release center located in Clearwater, Florida. CMA’s mission is to rescue and rehabilitate injured, ill, or orphaned marine mammals with the goal of releasing them back into their natural environment whenever possible; and to educate the public about these animals with the hope of generating respect and saving them from extinction. It was founded as Clearwater Marine Hospital in 1975 by Ken Thompson.

Universally loved, rescued dolphins are our best-known animals. These large mammals are intelligent, playful, and full of their own individual personalities! Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s most famous dolphins, Winter and Hope, were featured in the major motion pictures Dolphin Tale and Dolphin Tale 2!
With heavy hearts, Clearwater Marine Aquarium announced that Winter the Dolphin passed away on November 11, 2021, due to an intestinal abnormality. Winter the Dolphin has encouraged millions around the world through her remarkable rescue story. Her enduring spirit will live on in our hearts forever and her legacy will continue to inspire.
The extraordinary Ruth & J.O Stone Dolphin complex has five pools and holds 1.5 million gallons of filtered water from Clearwater Bay. With numerous floor-to-ceiling windows, including the Kate Tiedemann & Ellen Cotton Main Pool and Window of Wonder, guests have the opportunity to view and engage with our rescued residents in a whole new way. Swaying palm trees Meet Franklin the diamondback terrapin and learn about other local marine species in our new Kids Zone area located between Stingray Beach and the Marine Animal Hospital. Discover marine life & conservation in a fun, interactive environment. Kids will have the opportunity to participate in games, crafts, and storytime — all included with CMA admission!
From Farm to Turtle
Did you know CMA has a farm? It’s a sustainable aquaponics farm that helps to feed sea turtles!
During this program, you will be involved in every step of the aquaponics cycle:
- Measure the food and help feed the fish
- Harvest fresh leafy greens
- See how we create a food-filled enrichment toy for the sea turtles and watch them eat
